The First All-cargo Aircraft in Western China Arrives in Sichuan

On July 14, an Airbus 330-200F cargo aircraft arrived at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport and was officially delivered to Sichuan Airlines. This is the first all-cargo aircraft in western China. Sichuan Airlines will take advantage of this opportunity to expand its international freight network, create a business mix of "traditional business + new business", and support regional industries to integrate into the “Belt and Road” initiative.

This plane can carry 40-60 tons of cargo for every single trip, which is 10 times heavier than bellyhold capacity. Sichuan Airlines is planning to introduce three such all-cargo planes this year.

In recent years, Chengdu has accelerated the construction of an international aviation hub, built an international transportation hub in the West, and created an inland open economic development hub, and thus the cargo handling capacity is becoming increasingly important. In June 2017, Chengdu issued Supporting Policies to Promote the Development of Air Freight in Chengdu. Aiming at the problems hovering in air freight in Chengdu, such as the lack of base freight airlines, few international freight routes, and small air freight transshipment volume, this document proposed supporting policies. It is said that Sichuan Airlines will set up destinations in Chengdu, Brussels in Belgium, Moscow and St. Petersburg in Russia, Mumbai in India, Japan, aiming to serve the “Belt and Road” initiative, and open international routes for all-cargo aircraft.
